Default Wheel prep??

I want to refinish my wheel on my 2004 Silverado. They have a heavy clear coat on them that has pealed in places. What is the best and cheapest way to remove the exsisting clear coat? I know I could sand, but that's alot of sanding. Is their an easier option? These are aluminum wheels.
