 is it necessary to color sand the Paint Shop paint before clear coat? if i dont color sand and spray plenty of clear and sand out the orange peel after would i still get a smooth glass look if i dont color sand?

just wondering because i have been block sanding the paint and have not sprayed clear yet. i break through the paint in spots and need to spray another coat due to this. just wondering if i am doing alot of unnecessary work. thanks

No you do not have to sand the base coat. Just wet sand the clear coat.I painted my vw bug with ppg duracryl acrylic lacquer and just wet sanded and buffed out the clear. It came out great. So yes i think you are wasting a lot of time. I have a baja bug im going to paint with the paint shop system ant im only going to wet sand and buff the clear coat.

You don't have to color sand but should if there is orange peel in the color coat. It will be easier to sand the clear if the color coat is smooth. It will take much more clear to attempt to fill in the orange peel in the color coat.
