Hello,
Here's the project,I'm building a new bed for my welding truck out of diamond plate steel and smooth steel on the sides.
It's new bare metal, should I use self etching primer on the whole bed first?
What do I need to do to use the Dupli-Color bed liner on the top,do you have to prime bare metal? self etching or sandable?
I'll have more questions soon.....LOL I plan on using everything Dupli-Color on this project.
Thanks Tom K

oh, boy! sounds like a big job. i dont know much about bed liners and coatings. dupli-color specialists will help you on this one. but on surfaces that will be painted, it is best to use an etching primer first on the bare metal. then you can spray a high build primer that is sandable to smooth out the surface before paint. good luck and lets see some pics.:D

Tom, Chris is correct. You are going to want to use our self etching primer DAP1690 on all bare metal surfaces prior to applying the Truck Bed coating. There is no need for any high build primer to achieve a smooth surface considering the Truck Bed coating is textured. After the primer has dried get your self a few cans of the aerosol TR250 coating. Your going to want to apply this in any hard to reach areas like corners or 90's. It also acts as a good base coat prior to apply the bulk coating. After that apply 2 generous coats of the TRG250 gallon with roller kit. Let us know if you have any other questions. Have fun with your project.

Hello,
The top of the bed is flat diamond plate, then the sides drop down and there will be built in tool boxes. My truck is a white 2003 Chevy Crew cab I was going to paint the sides of the bed white but I think I'll just do them in black so It will look better longer.Don't think that white would hold up to welding and sparks etc.
How does the Truck liner hold up to heat ,sparks etc?
Thanks Tom K

The Truck Bed coating will hold up to heat and sparks but if you plan on applying direct constant heat to it, it might start to bubble.
