First off you have to make sure you have plenty of clear coat because you will be wetsanding some of it back off. 4-5 good coats is what I usually recommend.
Once clear is fully dried, usually 36-48 hours based on how many coats of clear you have on you will want to wetsand with 2000 grit paper. Stay away from all edges and body lines or you may go through.
Next buff with either an orbital or high speed buffer with a whool pad. If you use a high speed buffer make sure you practice with it first because it is very easy to burn through your paint. Keep the buffer moving and slow speed is always better. There is no need to run the buffer at full speed. Make sure you use the correct compound. Research 3M's website for details. Use their Perfect It line or something comparable.
Once the whool pad portion is done, go back over with a finer compound with a foam/waffle pad. Make sure you use the correct compound. Research 3M's website for details.
Once the wetsanding and buffing is complete you can wax it after 30 days. Since lacquer continues to cure over time you may have to run the buffer back over it with the foam pad to bring the shine back up. This is within this 30 day period.
