I have been painting a bicycle this summer with Metal Specks, Truck, Van and SUV and some One-shot Metallic Gold. I have since shot several coats of Vinyl Cote (water-based, acrylic clear coating) to seal it but I am not satisfied with the coverage. There are now decals and an autograph signed by a Sharpie Paint marker (oil-based) sitting on top of the other layers of paint.

I now want to clear over all of it and I know that I must spray an adhesion promoter over the decals and autograph. I was wondering if I should use an automotive clear or if Paint Shop Clear would work well. I know that the automotive clear would perform best but I don't want to spend the money for it if a Paint Shop product would work. Any suggestions?

This is a tough one. Using the Paint Shop clear as is with out any adhesion promoter would work just fine. There are high amounts of solvants which would bond very well over most paints. The thing that gets me is the water based clear that you already used. I strongly suggest you try using the PS clear over your water based clear on a practice substrate first before using it on your bike.
