Steve Burns contacted me with the following question:

Sir, I am looking for spray paint for my 1951 Mercury engine. I am told that Ford paint from 1929 to 1942 is not the same. I was told to contact Bill Hirsch Automotive for the paint. They have the correct Mercury paint but, it isn't available in the spray can form. At paying $ 35.00 per hour to have this guy paint my engine, I will go broke. In addition, he won't hand paint it and, doesn't have the equipment to spray it. Can you help me? Thank you in advance for any information you can provide, Steve Burns

We're the technical side of the forum, so I posted it here for a better response.

Steve,

I am unaware of the shade of paint that Mercury used on their engines for those years. We do offer an extensive line of engine paints. You can see if we offer a color that matches your engine. If we don't there are places that will mix up and fill aerosol cans to custom match your color. I hope this helps.
