Hello, I am looking at using the Paint shop products for my '73 Ranchero. I've have the bed and roof in your line of high build primer. Both red and gray. Do I need to put the system primer on before I spray the color coats? Any compatibility issues? After I put a color coat, and if I get orange peel, do I sand the color coat, reapply color, and then clear coat? I have done some painting before with BC/CC, first time with laquer, looking for a more user friendly process for my limited resources. Also, any issues for "cutting in" for a multi stage paint job? (panels painted at different times). Sorry if this a repeat question, may have missed the previous answers. Thanks!

The official answer will probably be, use a sealer. But I have the same issues, so I sprayed a test on my car with about 3 different types of primer, 2 different paints, and a clearcoat. All of them were fine with the DUplicolor primer, but they were old and stable. My advice to you spray a test patch about 1 x 2 feet, you can sand it off if it does not work.

Thanks for the info. The primer has been on for a few months with on going progress in between. I'll pick up a qt of color and see what results I get. Winters coming and with no covered storage outside a car cover, need to get finished whats done so as not have to repeat the current work next spring.............

Like Dart mentioned always do a test area if possible. When using the Paint Shop over top of your aerosol, there won't be any lifting issues. The aerosol filler primers are lacquar as well. There is not need for the system primer. You can shoot your color over what you have already sprayed.

If you get orange peel in the color coat then yes sand it smooth. You only need to reapply more color if you go through to the primer. Apply your clear once you are happy with your color coat. Make sure you apply enough clear because you will be taking some back off when you wet sand and buff it.

There shouldn't be any 'cutting in' issues as far as door/trunk jambs etc.
