Here are the directions on the back of the Candy Coat Can.

The steps start at STEP 3 only because your prep and primer should have been completed by now. The base coat is a metallic silver, followed by your candy color, then clear.

BSP100 Primer
BSP306 Candy Base Coat Silver
BSP304 Candy Apple Green
BSP300 Clear Coat

PROCEED TO:
Candy Coat application: Apply only
after Paint Shop Step 1: Wash and
prepare the surface, and Step 2: Prime
the surface, have been completed.
Visit www.duplicolor.com for a video
demonstration and information.

STEP 3 –
Apply Candy Base Coat
Dupli-Color Paint Shop Candy Base Coat
is essential to achieve a deep transparent
Candy Color. Dupli-Color Paint Shop
is ready-to-spray so there is no need
for reducing, but it can be thinned with
acetone if desired. Thoroughly shake and
stir contents before applying. Strain paint
before pouring into spray gun cup. Use
of a Dupli-Color Strainer Kit (BSP400)
is recommended. Adjust air pressure
on a conventional spray gun to 30-40
psi and 10-20 psi on an HVLP spray
gun. A 1.4mm spray tip is suggested.
Before spraying make sure to use a tack
cloth and carefully tack off the area to be
sprayed, removing any sanding dust or
particulates. Allow (Step 2) Primer Coat
5-10 minutes to dry before applying
Candy Base Coat. Each coat should be
applied light to medium holding the spray
gun 8-10 inches from the surface and
working from top to bottom. This will
help avoid metallic striping caused when
holding the gun too close or applying
paint too heavy. To insure metallic
colors are uniform, apply a mist coat
immediately while the last coat is still
wet by increasing gun distance to 12-14
inches. Apply as many coats as necessary
to achieve full color hide.
If step 3 has been fl awed with runs, sags,
or airborne debris allow the color to dry 24
hours. Lightly wet sand any imperfections
with 1500 grit wet sandpaper and re-apply
step 3 as described.

STEP 3A –
Apply Candy Coat
Candy Coat the surface with Dupli-Color
Paint Shop Candy Coat. Dupli-Color
Paint Shop is ready to spray so there
is no need for reducing but it can
be thinned with acetone if desired.
Thoroughly shake and stir contents
before applying. Adjust air pressure
on a conventional spray gun to 30-40
psi and 10-20 psi on an HVLP spray
gun. A 1.4mm spray tip is suggested.
Before spraying be sure to use a tack
cloth and carefully tack off the area to
be sprayed, removing any sanding dust
or particulates. Allow (Step 3) Candy
Base coat 5-10 minutes to dry before
applying Candy Color Coat. Hold the
gun 8-10 inches from the surface and
work from top to bottom. ALL CANDY
COLORS MUST BE APPLIED LIGHTLY.
Applying color coats too heavy will cause
striping or an uneven appearance. Allow
5-10 minutes of dry time between coats.
NOTE: Apply as many coats necessary to
achieve desired color and depth. Apply
coats as even as possible to avoid color
blotching.
If step 3 has been fl awed with runs, sags or
airborne debris, allow the color to dry 24
hours. Lightly wet sand any imperfections
with 1500 grit wet sandpaper and re-apply
step 3 as described. After fi nished, move
onto Step 4 and follow the directions for
applying Clear Coat.

STEP 4 –
Apply Clear Coat
Clear Coat the surface with Dupli-Color
Paint Shop Clear Coat (BSP300).
Dupli-Color Paint Shop is ready-to-spray
so there is no need for reducing, but it
can be thinned with acetone if desired.
Thoroughly shake and stir contents before
applying. Strain Clear Coat before pouring
into spray gun cup. Use of a Dupli-Color
Strainer Kit (BSP400) is recommended.
Adjust air pressure on a conventional
spray gun to 30-40 psi and 10-20 psi
on an HVLP spray gun. A 1.4mm spray
tip is suggested. Before spraying make
sure to use a tack cloth and carefully tack
off the area to be sprayed, removing any
sanding dust or particulates. Allow (Step
3A) Candy Coat 15 minutes to dry before
applying Clear Coat. Apply 2-3 coats of
Clear Coat allowing 5-10 minutes dry
time between coats. First coat should
be applied with a light to medium coat,
holding the gun 8-10 inches from the
surface. Allow 5-10 minutes between
coats and apply a medium to full second
coat. The last coat should be applied
wetter, but not enough to make it run or
sag. Apply as many coats as necessary
to achieve desired gloss. Additional fi lm
build-up is required if you plan to cut and
buff the fi nal fi nish as described in step 5.

STEP 5 –Buff and Polish
For best results and a fi nish that is more
glossy and smooth, Dupli-Color Paint
Shop can be buffed and polished. Allow
the sprayed area to dry at least 6 hours
fi rst. Test in an inconspicuous area to
determine if fi lm has completely dried.
Lightly wet sand any imperfections or
orange peel with 1500 grit wet sandpaper,
being careful not to cut through the clear
coat and into the paint. If you should cut
through the clear coat and into the paint,
you may repeat step 2 through step 4 at
any time after fi rst cleaning the surface
with mineral spirits. Dry surface fully and
buff with a random orbital waxer/polisher
using a wool buffi ng pad and 1500 grit
rubbing compound to bring the surface to
a glossy shine. Do not use a high-speed
buffer as they are too aggressive and
will damage the paint surface. To protect
and seal the fi nal fi nish, apply a coat of wax.
