Can the Paint shop clear be sprayed over synthetic enamel paints to make it like a base coat / clear coat. I have painted my truck with flat black enamel paint and I was wondering if the paint shop line of clear could be applied safely over it to make it a high gloss black.

Thanks for any help with this.

It depends on how hard/cured the enamel is. Paint Shop is Lacquer and most times a Lacquer will 'lift' an enamel. I suggest testing an indiscrete area first to see if any lifting occurs. I can't guarantee anything. :D If anything, apply in light coats so the solvants of the Lacquer don't affect the enamel. If you apply it heavy it will take longer to dry and give the Lacquer time to eat into the enamel. I hope this helps.

Thanks, Yea I know a regular lacquer paint would mess with the enamel but I didn't know if the paint shop was different since pretty much all cars now are painted with enamel. My truck has been painted for about a year and half and sits in the hot Louisiana sun everyday so it should be cured. Thanks for getting back to me. It's only 19 bucks and if it doesn't work I'll just use it for something else!
