Alright just have some questions since im a noobie to this kind of work. i plan on painting my 93 silverado with some of the paintshop line of duplicolor paint. im going with the victory red since my pickup is already red, my questions are
this paint is properly mixed, and all it needs is a clear correct?
also is my rockers are silver, so i should re-prime the whole truck?
what must be done for prep work?
approximantly how much paint will i need?
what type of tip for the spray gun?
Im not looking for a perfect show stoping paint job, just something that should look nice and will be realitivly inexpensive, but would like to get the best results i can. Any input is greatly apperciated. Thankyou

Thanks for the post
1/ This paint is properly mixed, and all it needs is a clear correct?
All Paint Shop paints are prereduced. All that is needed is to stir contents(because paint settles) and strain it into a spray gun. Use the Paint Shop Clear over the color. You can also use a Urethane clear over the color as well but you will have to consult you local Sherwin Williams Paint store to purchase.
2. Also my rockers are silver, so i should re-prime the whole truck?
You only have to prime areas that are down the bare metal or if any body work was done. Otherwise just a scuffing using scuff pads or 600 grit wetsanding will work. Are you keeping the lower half of your truck silver?
3. What must be done for prep work?
Degreasing, scuffing, degreasing, masking, tack cloth, paint
4. Approximantly how much paint will i need?
Every painter is different so it is hard to say how much you will need. Since you have a full size truck I am going to suggest 5-6 quarts of color and 8-10 of the clear.
5. What type of tip for the spray gun?
HVLP(high volume low pressure)

If your going with Red on the entire truck then you can just scuff and shoot. The Red will cover well over the Silver. It would be the same as shooting Red over Gray Primer. Make sure you take your time prepping because if you don't you will not be happy with your results. Also make sure you load up on the clear coat. I always suggest 5 heavy coats. With lacquer paint you will need to wetsand and buff it to get it to shine nicely. It will not have a superior shine right out of the gun like Urethane does. It take a little more elbow grease.
Paint Shop only comes in quarts.

After all of the paint work is complete everything will have to dry for at least 24 hours. I will suggest waiting 2 full days. You will then want to use 2000-2500 grit wet/dry sand paper. Wet sanding consists of sanding with water. You will also want to use a sanding block pad. This will make sure your sanding flat and evenly. You can sand with your hand around door handles and body lines. Don't sand directly on top of a body line or edge or you will sand through the paint faster than you know it. The water acts as a lubricant so the paint doesn't ball up and clog the paper. The reason for wet sanding is to get rid of the 'orange peel' and to have a smooth flat surface to buff. Go to www.youtube.com and type in wet sanding. Here is a link to one of the many videos people have posted. The internet is your friend when it comes to research and how-to videos.

If you have a Sherwin Williams Automotive Paint store near you ask them what to use. If you do not then you will have to ask your local PBE(paint body equip) store. It will be your standard Urethane clear with hardener.

Unless your truck was painted with an Enamel you don't need a sealer. I am assuming that your truck still has its original paint. Paint Shop is lacquer and will not lay over enamel without a lifting/cracking issue. If there is a concern ten I will suggest using the Paint Shop primer before the color. We have painted several vehicles using this system over a standard OEM base/clear urethane finish with out any issues.

I hear you on trading up. Sometimes I want to trade up on my Camaro. I just cant because of all the work I have put into this car, and all the stuff I want to do.
