Hi all!

I am getting ready to paint my 1968 Dart with the Paint Shop System.

So far I have been working on the bodywork for over 5 months now, I am getting close to done, I should be priming it in a few weeks. I have a few questions for the paint expert.

1. The BSP100 Primer. Is this a sealer? Or is it just a primer? I pet a test patch of this primer over patches of what is existing on my car. It covered original paint, polyester high build primer, a later base/clear paint (mid 90's I think), and over the Duplicolor High build primer. It appeared not to lift or stain through it. SO it leads me to the question, is this a sealer?

2. I have heard bad things about the low shine of this lauquer paint, whya is that? Everywhere I go, people warn me against using any type of laquer, whay is that?

3. What pressure should I spray at? I have a regulator mounter at the base of my gun, should I set the pressure with the trigger depressed (passing air) or closed?

Here are some pictures of the progress so far.

I took your post and created a Q/A reply.

thanks

Answer: The BSP100 is not a sealer it is just a standard primer. Body fillers will stain through only if a certain hardener is used in that filler. I want to say the RED color hardener. Although there is stain free filler as well. It will say it on the can. It seems as though you already tested a few areas and didn't have any troubles. Keep in mind that staining mainly occurs in white paints. We do offer a sealer in an aerosol can #DAP1699. You may want to use that over bare filler.

2. I have heard bad things about the low shine of this lauquer paint, whya is that? Everywhere I go, people warn me against using any type of laquer, whay is that?

Answer: Unlike a traditional base/clear catilized system, Lacquer paint doesn't have a spectacular shine on an 'as is' finish. The key to a glossy shine with Lacquer is to build up the coats(clear coat in this case), wet sand and buff. Your going to want to apply the color until you have full even coverage but really build up the clear so you have plenty to work with when you wetsand. Always start with a FINE grit paper because it doesn't take long to sand through. Be careful on the edges.

3. What pressure should I spray at? I have a regulator mounter at the base of my gun, should I set the pressure with the trigger depressed (passing air) or closed?

Answer: I would set the air pressure to about 25-35 psi even though the directions say 30-40. Every spray gun is different so test spray a piece of cardboard first. You are going to want to set the pressure with air passing through.

The car looks awesome so far. Take your time to ensure a nice paint job.
