i noticed on yalls painting steps that yall just wash the car down and then spray it with primer then sealer and finaly paint and clear. My question is how does the primer stick to the car without it pealing off later, cuz im gonna paint my car becouse the the clear is pealing off and i just dont like the color lol,But to make things easier do i HAVE to sand it down or can i just wash it and prime it,paint it and clear it.Just wanted to ask yall since yall know more about yalls paint than i do lol.

Chunky,

I would suggest grabbing a random orbital sander (unless you happen to have a DA sander), throw some 220 grit pads on it and get after the flaking clear coat. It will go _much_ faster than you think, and the finish will be much nicer. I have painted 2 bike so far, and the prep work dictates the finish you will have. If you go ahead and hit the entire surface of the car with a light pass of 220 on the sander, you everything will stick better and you will remove any loose or chipped paint you may otherwise miss in a wipe down. You shouldn't need to go down to bare metal, just make sure you are at "solid" paint.

I would also suggest wet sanding your primer coat before painting with 1000-1500 grit, then wet sanding the color coat with 1500 grit before the clear coat. Again, these steps could be considered optional, but vastly improve the final finish. BTW, do all this by hand with 1/4 sheets of paper, and keep it wet. Don't get too aggressive, just knock the surface smooth and avoid corners as you will sand through the paint faster in those areas.

If you are going to go through the trouble of painting the car in the first place, do the sanding, it makes a huge difference.
