I want to paint my chrome plastic grille on my 00 gmc z71. I want it to be black like the rest of my truck. What is the best method and products to get it to match the truck? Should I just spray truck, van, and suv paint? Do I need to primer? Do I need a clear? Any and all tips will be useful. Im starting a large project and figured this was a good place to practice and begin.

I personally have painted chrome and the key is sanding it. Chrome is so hard and smooth that paint has a tough time bonding to it. You don't want to use a course paper because you don't want to create heavy scratches that won't disappear when covered with paint. I have used Emory Cloth to sand chrome and have had great results. After sanding the chrome you will want to wipe it down with our Prep Wipes #PW100, prime with Self Etch Primer #DAP1690 and then your color over that. Look up your paint code. I bet it is WA8555 which is GM Black for that year. Our paint to match is #DSGM001. It is in the 5oz small can, so use that for your color and #T125 clear coat for added protection if you wish. If you prefer not to sand your grill you can prime with our adhesion promotor #CP199 first and then your color then clear.
