I want to paint this on my air cleaner cover on my 95 Chevy PU
how long do I need to wait between layers and taping the designs. This is really my first attempt at painting much of anything and I know it will be difficult but thats how I do things.:D Also how long should I wait after it is done to put it back on my truck.

Duplicolor paint will dry quick(15-20min.). This is Ok for waiting between coats. But i would wait 2-3 hours before remving any tape and 24 hours before putting it back on the truck.

bowtie, this looks like a very involved project so this will take some time and patience. Chris has some good advice but in your case, considering the amount of masking involved, I would wait 24 hours in between each paint color and masking work.
Prep will be extremely important since you will want this paint to bond very well in order for it to handle all the taping you will do on the substrate.
1. Use our paint stripper ST100 to remove all existing paint. If your item is rusty I would suggest sand blasting it.
2. Prep Spray PS100
3. Self Etch Primer DAP1690 and wait about an hour before top coating with color
4. Black base. Probably 2-3 coats. Let dry fully for 24 hours. I am going to suggest our Engine paint for this.
5. Tape design with quality low tack tape
6. Apply your silver or blue and let that dry for another 24 hours in between color changes.
7. Clear with Engine clear when complete.

1. Use Fine line tape...the blue masking tape doesn't always cut it nice.
2. Don't cut corners on drying time/tape removal
3. Plan your taping very carefully
4. Many light coats...getting in a hurry just takes longer
5. I love duplicolor
6. Don't start painting stuff its addicting!!!
