Big Boy,
Well we certainly don't get questions like this everyday. I will give you the approximate number of cans per item but am going to suggest looking into our Paint Shop system. It includes your primer, color and clear and we offer a red in this line. It would actually be CHEAPER than buying a bunch of aerosol cans. However you do need a spray gun and air compressor to apply Paint Shop.

As for the aerosol
6-8 cans of primer
12-14 cans of color
16-18 cans of clear(because this is what you will be rubbing on and want the added coats)
Thanks

If your going the aerosol can route use T125 Truck Van and SUV Clear coat.
Scuff everything down with 400-600 or a Red scuff pad.
Wetsand with 2000 grit in between coats to get rid of any dirt that landed in your paint. After all of your clear is on and has dried for 24hours then wetsand with 2000 and buff to a gloss.

I looked up the spray gun you purchased. It is a siphon style so you will want to use approximately 30-40 psi. You will also want to get yourself an inline filter. These are threaded onto the gun at the air inlet and then the air hose fitting threads onto the filter. Very basic. It basically looks like a plastic ball. Contact your local Sherwin Williams Automotive or PBE paint store to obtain one.
You will need approximately 4-5 quarts of clear depending on spray technique. A good 5 coats of clear over the color coat is always a good rule of thumb with Paint Shop. You are going to end up wet sanding some of that off after you are completed for buffing purposes. Try to paint on a very dry day with low humidity.
