The recent Speed Channel coverage of the SEMA 2008 show highlighted the release of candys to the Paint Shop line. There is no mention of this new product on the Duplicolor website. Any idea as to when information will be available?

You guys saw that correctly. It was yours truely who spoke, Brian Suter(thats me) along with Steve Spirko the Dupli-Color Product Manager. The new Paint Shop Candy Coat system will be hitting stores around mid February or early March. It is a 4 step process:

BSP100 Primer
BSP306 Candy Base Coat(high metallic silver)
BSPXXX Color
BSP300 Clear

3 Colors available

BSP303 Candy Apple Red
BSP304 Candy Apple Green
BSP305 Candy Orange

Hope you all like it.

How dark is the candy green going to be? I would still like to see a deep forest green:D and w/ a little candy added, it would look awesome.

Well the Candy Green is a Candy Green. It won't be nearly as dark as you would like. The color does get darker as you add more coats but also because less transparent which defeats the idea of a candy finish. We are however looking to add Dark Metallic Forrest Green in the Paint Shop line for 2010.

Thanks for the info. Will the stores selling the candys have paint chips available?

John we currently do not offer paint chips at the stores due to the high cost of doing so. This might be something we offer in the future. We have painted a few items using this new paint and will be uploading pictures onto our site.

I see that the candy colors are being listed on some web sites already, does this mean that they are available?

I've never painted before, but I'm planning to repaint my cycle, and I love candy orange. Are there any other complications with using the candy system other than needing the candy base coat?

I'd like to do a black stripe down the middle of the tank and fenders, do I need to mask the stipe off before doing the candy base coat, or will the black apply over the candy base coat fine?

Thanks,
Dan

The Candy System has been shipped out. Please contact your local Autozone/O'Reilly/Napa or Advance Auto to find out if it has hit the shelves yet. We offer the base coat as part of the system. The candy system does take a little more time and patience to apply than the original Paint Shop system. The color must be applied in LIGHT coats or you may end up with striping or blotchyness. I plan on creating a 'sticky' post about the new system which will give details for application. As for the black stripe I would suggest painting it over the candy and then clearing it all together.

Yes as long as you use the silver metallic base coat. However you can use it over any color but the final color outcome will be different. The actual Candy paint is translucent so what ever you apply it over will change the final color.

I wonder what the candy green would look like over the graphite? I am not a fan of the traditional candy green and am also looking for a darker color

It would probably give the candy a much darker appearance.

Can you give me a ball park retail price on the Paint Shop Candy line per quart?

Please include primer, base and Candy Orange cost.

Also, neither my local Advance AP or Auto Zone carry the Candy line. Is there another outlet source I can order through?

I've bee buying them from Autobody Tool mart (https://www.autobodytoolmart.com/). They are about $20 a can for each that you mention (primer, base, candy ,clear).
