Alright so I bought a 1976 25 foot motorhome (a couple minor surface rust spots) and originally planned on painting it with rust paint to save money. I noticed PaintShop at Canadian Tire and am now thinking it would be a better way to go. My questions are after I repair the few rust patches can I just clean it up good prime over the repaired area and start painting? Do I NEED to prime the whole thing? Priming the whole thing sounds expensive and I don't want to invest a bunch of money just don't want the ugly old faded beige and orange pain. Second question is do I need to buff and polish and entire mortothome? Will it look good, again not going for perfect just good hell I am gonna have to paint outside. My boss has all the equipment he is gonna lend me but this will be my first time painting a vehicle except for spray bombs. Lastly how many cans will it take? Seriously does anyone have an idea? How many coats do I need to use? How many coats of clear?

One of the purposes of primer is to make sure the color coat has an even color appearance. If you do not prime over a multi-colored surface like yours then you might get bleed through and your new top color coat won't look good.
Yes, you need to wet sand and buff Paint Shop. Please check out other posts with in the Paint Shop thread on this forum.
How many quarts? It depends if you are painting just the cab or all 25 feet. It is hard to estimate such a job.
