Hi. I'm new at this. Just trying to save close to $1k on autobody work outside. So here goes on what I've done already.

This is on a 97 Accord. I've sanded down the Trunk, Hood & the Top. But I'm only doing Primer & Paint first on the Trunk to test out how it would look.

1) Sand with 400
2) Sand with 800
3) Sand with 1000
4) Sand with 1500, then 2000

3 coats of Primer
Sand again with 1500
Spray Paint 2 coats of Black
Sand with 2000
Spray Paint another coat of Black
Spray Paint 1 layer of Top Coat

**** Now this is where the paint is still rough. Does not feel smooth at all.
Hand buff with a wool pad with Rubbing Compound. Then all the white Rubbing Compound will like lays in between the paint and there are white spots all over.

What am I doing wrong here. Want to get it done by this week since the weather is still hot. Have the Rubbing & Polishing Compound.

Any and All help would be appreciated.

I am going to guess that the white spots in your black paint are voids or chips that were not sanded or feathered smooth to begin with and the polish is filling those areas. These are flaws in the old original paint. In order to get rid of them you need to feather sand every blemish out first then prime, color and clear.
