I'm painting some plastic motorcycle fairings. They were already painted (from the factory that way).
I've scuffed them with the red 3M pad, and primed them with the sandable primer. I then wet sanded them lightly with 1000 grit, just to smooth them over before the color coat. After sanding, I sprayed some prep-all (wax and grease remover) on them to clean them. What happened was the primer literally just liquified and wiped right off the plastic parts. Not a spec of pimter left on the parts. It was like the prep-all just washed the primer right off. Fortunately, I only sprayed one part. So the rest still have primer on them.
Question - was that the prep-all doing that, and I shouldn't use it? or was it that the primer never adhered to the parts? (it was about 24 hours between priming the parts and spraying the prep-all).
If it's the prep-all, then fine, simple to fix (don't use it), but if it's the primer not sticking to the plastic parts, then that's a bit more complicated. Should I have scuffed more? Or used adhesion promoter? or a different primer? And if that's the case, should I remove the primer from the other parts and start again?
Any help would be appreciated....
