I have a mitsubishi eclipse n the clear coat has faded on the flat spots(hood, roof, truck). Now these spots go from gloss black to the clear flaking to flat black and just jumps from one to another. My question is do to sand the gloss and clear flaking down to the flat black so I dont have to prime before painting or just go to bare metal? Now is that flat black the primer or just the paint without the clear coat. Heres some more questions... does dulpicolor offer matching paint for an 00 eclipse. N ive seen on other threads where you sand the color coat before clear, what grit would that be, n should that be wet sanding?

In order to fix faded/flaking clear you have to sand everything down and recolor and reclear or the new paint will look poor and flake off as well. We do offer touch up paint for your vehicle. If your car is basic black then use our Perfect Match Universal black.

Sanding: 600 grit wet sanding with a pad to remove all old flaking paing. Prime with our FP101 then wet sand lightly again with the 600.

Color coat then clear coat according to the instructions on the can. Apply 4 good coats of clear then if needed, wet sand with 2000 grit and buff out.

Yeah I have seen paint do that on many vehicles. Your old Suburban sounds cool!

FYI You might want to look into our Paint Shop system for this job since it might be a bit much for our Perfect Match aerosol.

Q: After the top coat do I wait for the paint to be compelely dry before the clear is sprayed on or 5 to 10 mins or within the hour of the last coat of black was applied?

A: Perfect Match dries fast however I would give it about 30 min to dry before the clear is applied.
