I am currently in the process of repainting my type-r lip for my Honda Civic SSM. I sanded the old paint off and I have some silver spray that is very close to a match for my car. I have a few clear coating questions. I am looking to get the duplicolor clear coat. The lip on my car takes a beating. I do a lot of expressway driving and live in Chicago with salty winters.
1. Will the duplicolor clear be enough to protect my paint?
2. Will I run into problem with the silver paint lifting up off the primer when i spray the clear coat on?
3. How many coats should I put on the lip and also how long of a time interval in between coats?
4. Finally, how long till I am able to polish and wax the clear coat?

Thanks

1. yes
2. no, all duplicolor paints are lacquer based and will be bond together great.
3. 3-4 light coats. wait at least 24 hours between each coat. wetsand to remove any orange peel, if there is any. then buff last for a deep shine.
4. polishing can be done right after wetsanding. i would wait at least 30 days before waxing.

Chris thanks again for your detailed follow ups on this forum.

A little side note with lacquer paint. You can recoat within 10 minutes of each coat. No need to wait 24hrs between coats. With lacquer there is no recoat window. :D

ah, yes! but i would like to add, that i wetsand the color w/ 1000 grit after each coat to minimize the orange peel before i spray the clear. this is why i wait 24 hours between coats. :D :p

Correct Chris. Waiting 24 hours before wetsanding any flaws out is key but if there is no need for wetsanding then 10-15min between coats if fine.
