Can you just use the metallic silver base coat with out the candy coat?... or would bright silver be better?....

What paint are you using ? I have been doing alot of work with the paintshop products lately, the brillant silver color is a metallic silver that is really metallic and looks good with the clear coat over it.

Picked up a can of the brilliant silver today... just to see what the color looked like... and i think I'm going to be pretty happy with it...lots of metallic.. I wonder what color of silver in a spray can would best match the paint shop Brilliant silver?.... for doing door jams and touch ups on body panels that get cover up...

I would just use a touch up gun, you can get them very cheap. I have been using the hvlp ones from harbor freight tools, they seem to work good for occasional use, just remember to thin your paint 4:1 with laquer thinner or acetone to get a good spray pattern with the smaller tip.

The Candy Basecoat Silver can be used without a Candy top coat. It's essentially a super metallic version of the Bright Silver.

so... with the paintshop primer... you could lightly sand it before the base coat?.. or is that a dumb question...

Absolutely you can and should sand it , usually after you apply a primer you can see minor imperfections that you missed when prepping. I use 500 grit wet/dry. Make sure you wipe it down with a wet rag and tack cloth right before you paint.

thats what I thought... but thanks for conferming...now I just have to wait for winter to be over.... way to cold and damp for painting in the garage right now...

What are you painting ? Im in Michigan around the Detroit area. I have a simple paint booth set up in the basement. I just have to turn the furnace/water heater off for 1/2 hour before and after I paint. If you are painting in a garage let me know, I have a cheap killer setup for it when the weather is cooperative.
Does the silver Candy base coat have the highest metallic content with the most sparkle? I'm going to spray the candy orange on top.

hey TCRefinishing. I'd be interested in your set up. I have a wood shop and would like to take have and set it up for a spray booth. I am in the Detroit metro area as well.
