Hi all,

My name is Mike and I drive a 1985 Pontiac Fiero.
Now, for those of you not familar with these cars the majority of it is plastic.
I have seen a few guys do a "rattle can" paint job with excellent results, and I plan to do the same. What I'm looking for is suggestions on the type of paint and any advice on any thing that might hurt me. Temps, prep, etc..

The previous owner attempted to paint the car in his driveway, so it looks horrible. The front end is viper blue and the rest of the car is the original red.
I plan on going back to the red. Thanks in advance for any help. Any and all advice is appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

Hey Mike Welcome to the site. A lot of great info here for your project. Since you are painting Plastic our Adhesion promotor is going to be your best friend. This our part number CP199. It is a clear primer for plastics and different types of metals. You will only need to use this product on bare plastic areas. If the original paint is still in good shape you will just need to scuff the gloss off so your new paint has something to bond to. Follow these steps and you should have great results

1. Wash down entire vehicle and use our Prep Spray #PS100 to remove any tar grease and wax

2. Scuff down entire vehicle with a Red/Brown Scotch Brite Pad. This will help the new paint bond. You will also need to take care of any bodywork at this time and smooth out any stone chipped areas. Apply the Adhesion Promotor #CP199 to any bare plastic areas. You can use our Filler Primer FP101 to fill any chipped paint or scratches.

3. Whipe down again with the Prep Spray #PS100.

4. Apply your color of choice

5. Apply your clear of choice

NOTE: You may want to check out our Paint Shop System. It would work perfectly for what you are trying to accomplish.
