I have a 1951 Chevy pickup with a professional base clear paint job with a mirror finish. I am trying to paint two trim pieces to match the rest of the pickup and I am using Perfect Match universal black and clear. I have painted base and clear, let them dry and have been using 2000 wet/dry to smooth the clear coat. The clear finish is in pretty good shape, but far from the mirror finish of the rest of the pickup. I have used both rubbing compound and stage #1 KPRO Eraser to try to produce the mirror finish I need. Do I need to continue with sanding until the finish is mirror like or do I need to be using some other compound to produce the mirror like finish?

The first thing you will want to do is build up the clear coat to at least 5 coats. You will then need to wet sand all orange peal out with 200 grit as you mentioned. I then use 3M Perfect It series compound.
