I've had these pics on my camera for a long time. It's a dodge dakota farm truck that we painted Deep Blue. We shot the primer & blue one weekend, and the clear the following after adding racing stripes. The gun we were using was older and gave horrible results, the blue went on looking like Metal Specs paint. I got a new gun for the White & Clear and put a lot on since I figured there would be a lot of sanding to get the paint level, but there was too much orange peel. The person's garage we were borrowing for the 2 weekends was no longer available, so it was what it was. The paint job doesn't show a lot of reflection. The truck looks 10x better than it did. The owner is 16 yrs old and in H.S. so it's good enough for him compared to the old faded original paint job. :)

wow, that does have alot of orange peel. what air pressure did you spray with. it should be about 25 psi at the tip. Paint Shop does go on really well. i have pics posted of my car in the cars section. also, after you spray the clear coat (3-4 coats) then you need to wet sand it w/ 1000-2000 grit paper. the clear will then look dull, but then you need to buff it and then it will really shine.

Orange peel huh? I had thought that was done on purpose. So he's got to alot of sanding to do.... that's a lot of orange peel then. :(

by the time we would have wetsanded through all the orange peel, we were down to the color. we did wetsand & polish after the pics, but still does not reflect well because we could not sand all the way thru the orange peel. Best to start with a good gun, learn from this truck!

you can wet sand the paint also. color sanding is recommended at all times. it will look dull after you wet sand paint, but dont worry, when you spray the clear on it shines right up. then wet sand the clear. last ,buff and you will have ayouirself a nice lookin vehicle. although, that texture on your truck does look kinda neat.

Wet sand it down again and shoot another few coats of clear on it, then you should be able to wet sand and then buff it pretty smooth.

well for a truck it looks kind of cool with the textured look, a little less agressive than bedliner, and a lot better color.. this coming from a guy who used the dupli-color bedliner to cover his whole truck :)

That Dakota's finish quality looks alot like my vw beetle. Despite tons of sanding, prep, 3 different guns, and a million different pressure/flow settings...we never could never EVER get a smooth finish. No matter how much paint we applied, we could never get it to flash on the wet coat. Even the clearcoat was garbage.
I've never seen more orange peel!
This is the 4th car Ive painted, so I am fairly aware of common paint issues, but I'm beginning to wonder if ANYONE could get a good finish with this paint, at least the metallic type.
I hate to disparage this product because I really like the color and concept, but something needs to change in this product. It cost me too much money to have this poor of paint job. :(

THERE ARE MANY PICTURES OF CARS ON THIS FORUM THAT HAVE A GREAT FINISH AND MOST OF THEM HAVE BEEN DONE BY FIRST-TIMERS. INCLUDING 2 THAT I HAVE DONE MYSELF. IT MUST BE SOMETHING THAT YOU ARE DOING WRONG.
