Okay, maybe I am a little nuts, but based on reviews I am more comfortable using paint shop as it seems to be the most forgiving for a newbie taking on a large project.

What I really want is a DARK metallic navy blue....what is running through my head is to mix the deep blue with black, and possibly adding a small amount of the candy base bright silver, then using the metallic clear & clear.

I saw (but was unable to vote in) the new color polls, and am planning on starting this project around the first of the year... If the navy discussed makes the cut how soon will it be on the shelf?

Also, Based on other comments I am thinking I will be going through about 3 gallons of color for an older crew cab dually...how far out of line am I?

Thoughts?

Tim,

I answered your questions below.

Okay, maybe I am a little nuts, but based on reviews I am more comfortable using paint shop as it seems to be the most forgiving for a newbie taking on a large project.

A: You are 100% correct. Paint Shop was designed to be extremely user friendly and for users from beginner to pro.

A: Yes the dark blue did make the cut however it is a solid color. It is a very deep blue and looks great. It will be available around Feb/March 2010. I am not sure how dark you plan on going or when you plan to paint but you can inner mix to create a custom color. If you are planning painting soon then you can mix a small amount of Black with the Deep Blue but do not add any silver as this will lighten the color alot. I know from messing around myself. If you are not painting until early next year I am going to suggest using our new Midnight Blue with the Metallic clear over that.

A: See answer to the question above.

A: I will tell you right now that the new Midnight Blue takes a few coats to cover and achieve full color hide. You might even want to tint the primer with a little of the Paint Shop black but that is up to you. If you are painting a Dually then yes you will need a decent amount of paint but 3 gallons is probably more than you will need. I am going to say 2 gallons or color. You will find out once you get going.

With any paint project prep is very important. Take your time. Also read up on other posts hear regarding Paint Shop for tips. One final note, always spray out a test panel on what you trying to achieve to make sure you are happy and to practice your spray technique.

I hope this helps you out.
